This database driven website was a development project we did for The Miami Herald. Most of the time when they need work on any of the Internet sites they own they have their internal six person IT department take care of whatever they need. However, running a company with hundreds of computer users within a six story building places heavy demands on the IT department. In the history of The Miami Herald they have never given any outside vendor access to their servers or allowed an outside vendor to design a website for them. They needed a company that they could trust with access to their server. They also have a 100+ year history of publishing a paper every day no matter who was out sick, no matter what the weather was like the paper must be published daily. They took their search for the right Miami website design firm seriously. They wanted a company they could trust to get things done on time just like they do in their business. The search brought them to our Fort Lauderdale database website design firm. We also design their HTML e-mail newsletter which goes out monthly to all of their subscribers.
This database driven website has a login on the home page in which a subscriber enters their home phone number and house number. Our website verifies their status as a current subscriber against The Miami Herald's database of subscribers and then allows or denies entry to the website based upon the subscription status.
The site also has contests that anyone can enter even without being a subscriber. This was an important function because if you require people to login then you are requiring them to be subscribers so in that way you would be making them pay to enter a contest. Paying to enter a contest would make this an illegal gambling website and violate Florida state laws.
From the admin of the website HTML emails which are personalized with first name and/or last name can be sent to subscribers. Coupons can be added or deleted, advertisers can upload their own coupons and many other robust features are available to the administrator of the website.
